7. Skilled-need justification (SNF)

Observation & assessment of an unstable condition

Delirium superimposed on dementia carries a reasonable potential for a serious, treatable acute illness; distinguishing it from the baseline requires nursing judgment daily.

Management & evaluation

Skilled non-pharmacologic management of new or dangerous BPSD, and the integration of dementia into a skilled comorbidity’s plan, are skilled services when required.
