Perform post-operative neck-incision care and conduct hematoma, airway/voice, and hypocalcemia surveillance after thyroid/neck surgery.
Monitor the thyroid status and medication response and escalate signs of over/under-treatment or a thyroid crisis.
Maintain cervical immobilization per order with neuro-vascular checks where applicable.
Teaching / training (to mastery)
Teach the resident/representative post-thyroidectomy warning signs (neck swelling, breathing/voice change, numbness/tingling), incision care, and thyroid-medication adherence, with teach-back.
Train CNAs to report neck swelling, breathing or voice change, and perioral/digital numbness or twitching immediately, with documented understanding.
