1. Purpose and clinical relevance

Diabetes management commonly supports a skilled Part A day — a resident requiring insulin administration with sliding-scale or titration judgment, recovery from a glycemic crisis (DKA or a hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state), a new insulin start needing daily titration and teaching, or the management of diabetic complications. The skilled work is glucose monitoring paired with clinical judgment, insulin administration and adjustment within the ordered parameters, and the early recognition and treatment of hypo- and hyperglycemia.

This overlay proves, for each billed day, that skilled glycemic observation, insulin administration, teaching, or management was reasonable, necessary, needed daily, and available only in a SNF under Pub. 100-02 Chapter 8. Use it with the Endocrine & Metabolic reference, which supplies the base endocrine content and thyroid/electrolyte material.
