Manage epistaxis with pressure/positioning and bleeding surveillance; provide post-operative packing care and precaution enforcement.
Provide skilled nares care under an NG tube or cannula to prevent pressure injury and maintain the device.
Recognize a CSF leak after neurosurgery and escalate; coordinate cautery/packing or evaluation as ordered.
Teaching / training (to mastery)
Teach the resident/representative epistaxis first aid, post-nasal-surgery precautions (no nose-blowing/straining), and device/nares care, with teach-back.
Train CNAs on nares-pressure prevention under devices, epistaxis reporting, and reporting clear nasal drainage after neurosurgery, with documented understanding.
