Perform incision/drain care and post-surgical assessment; administer and monitor VTE prophylaxis with calf surveillance.
Control pain to enable therapy and deliver rehabilitation-nursing carryover; enforce surgical precautions and activity orders.
Provide complication surveillance (SSI, bleeding, VTE, ileus, atelectasis) with parameter-based escalation.
Teaching / training (to mastery)
Teach the resident/caregiver incision care, the surgical precautions and activity restrictions, VTE and infection warning signs, and pulmonary hygiene, with return-demonstration/teach-back.
Train CNAs on the precautions and safe assist levels, incision/drain and calf reporting, and early reporting of a wound, breathing, or bowel change, with return-demonstration.
