Cardiovascular conditions are among the most common qualifying Part A stays: heart-failure recovery after an acute exacerbation, post-myocardial-infarction and post-cardiac-procedure recovery, new or uncontrolled arrhythmias, and hypertensive management. The skilled element is daily — a HF resident on a parameter-based diuretic requires daily weights, correlation of weight and edema with the order, and the observation that catches decompensation before it becomes a transfer.
The purpose of this module is to prove, for each billed day, that skilled cardiac observation, management and evaluation of the plan, a covered procedure, or teaching was reasonable, necessary, needed daily, and available only in a SNF under Pub. 100-02 Chapter 8. The cardiac exam is the same as in home care; the coverage spine is re-pointed.
