Sleep matters in a skilled stay for concrete clinical reasons. Sleep-disordered breathing managed with CPAP or BiPAP is a skilled respiratory-device service requiring set-up, monitoring for tolerance and desaturation, and troubleshooting. A sleep-wake disruption — particularly a day-night reversal or new nighttime agitation — is frequently the earliest sign of delirium or an acute change. And insomnia driven by uncontrolled pain or dyspnea directly undermines the participation the skilled rehabilitation plan depends on.
This module proves, on the days it applies, that skilled device management, observation of a sleep-wake change, or management of a sleep problem affecting the skilled course was reasonable, necessary, and part of the daily skilled need under Pub. 100-02 Chapter 8. The sleep assessment is the same as in home care; the coverage spine is re-pointed. Sleep alone is rarely a qualifier; it is documented as a device service or a factor in the primary skilled course.
