The adult female genitourinary system generates several conditions that require skilled home-health care — post-operative recovery after gynecologic surgery, postmenopausal bleeding that must be treated as malignancy until excluded, pelvic-floor and prolapse management including pessary care, and pelvic infection. The skilled value of this domain is managing post-operative recovery and pessaries, recognizing bleeding and infection that require urgent evaluation, and identifying the emergencies, all while protecting the patient’s dignity. Documentation that records “no complaints” without the assessment does not prove a nurse was required; recognizing postmenopausal bleeding or a pelvic emergency does.
The purpose of this module is to give the clinician the framework for the clinical female genitourinary assessment (non-obstetric) — vaginal and pelvic status, bleeding evaluation, post-operative gynecologic care, and pelvic-floor and pessary management — and the chartable language that demonstrates observation and assessment, skilled procedure, and teaching and training, performed with consent, privacy, and a chaperone per policy, with the bladder and catheter routed to Urinary/Renal.
