Allergy and immune status drive a skilled course in several ways. A severe allergic reaction or anaphylaxis requires immediate skilled recognition and management (epinephrine and airway support). Immunosuppression — after transplant, during chemotherapy, or on immunotherapy — requires infection precautions and heightened surveillance because the infection response is blunted. IVIG and other immunotherapies are covered skilled procedures with reaction monitoring, and severe cutaneous drug reactions (such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome) are emergencies. The skilled work is the reaction and infection surveillance and the administration and monitoring of immunotherapy.
This module proves, on the days it applies, that skilled allergic/immunologic observation, immunotherapy administration, or precaution management was reasonable, necessary, and part of the daily skilled need under Pub. 100-02 Chapter 8. The assessment is the same as in home care; the coverage spine is re-pointed. Airway routes to Respiratory; cytopenias to Hematologic; sepsis to the Sepsis overlay.
