Restorative nursing is a structured, nurse-directed program that helps a resident maintain or improve function and independence, and it supports the PDPM nursing component when documented and coded correctly. The facility must ensure a resident’s abilities in ADLs do not diminish unless unavoidable, and that a dependent resident receives the services needed to maintain function (F676/F677).
Restorative is distinct from skilled therapy: it is provided by nursing/CNA staff under RN direction, follows therapy discharge or maintains a baseline, and its minutes support the nursing — not the therapy — component of PDPM. This module owns that distinction and the documentation that supports O0500.
