5. Skilled interventions and teaching

Skilled interventions

  • Provide post-operative gynecologic care with hemorrhage, cuff-dehiscence, infection, and VTE surveillance.
  • Manage a pessary (fit, retention, skin) and provide skilled perineal care for the dependent resident.
  • Administer and monitor VTE prophylaxis and recognize a post-operative complication with escalation.

Teaching / training (to mastery)

  • Teach the resident/representative post-gynecologic-surgery care, activity and straining restrictions, pessary care, and the warning signs (heavy bleeding, a gush of fluid, fever, calf pain), with return-demonstration/teach-back.
  • Train CNAs on perineal care, reporting heavy vaginal bleeding, drainage, or calf swelling, and VTE-prophylaxis support, with documented understanding.
