6. Red flags — escalate / transfer

🚩 Red flags

Dialysis-access loss or hemorrhage — a lost thrill/bruit, or access bleeding not controlled with pressure — urgent dialysis-unit/provider notification/transfer.

Life-threatening hyperkalemia or fluid overload — weakness/arrhythmia, or severe dyspnea/hypoxia — escalate/transfer per protocol.

PD peritonitis — a cloudy effluent with abdominal pain and fever — urgent notification and effluent studies per order.

Missed dialysis with symptoms — a missed session with uremic or overload signs — escalate to the unit/provider.
