Covered skilled procedure
Administration and monitoring of intravenous medications, care of a central or peripheral line, and management of a drain are direct skilled services under Chapter 8 when required.
Observation & assessment of an unstable condition
The presence of a central line or a drain carries a reasonable potential for a complication (infection, occlusion, dislodgement); detecting it requires daily nursing judgment.
