Peripheral vascular compromise — arterial insufficiency, venous disease, acute limb ischemia, and deep-vein thrombosis — can progress to limb loss or embolism, and early findings such as a newly diminished pulse, a cooler or paler extremity, or new unilateral calf pain and swelling require nursing judgment to detect and escalate before they become emergencies.
The purpose of this module is to give clinicians the skilled framework and chartable language that demonstrate peripheral vascular assessment, monitoring, teaching, and coordination were reasonable and necessary and required the skills of a licensed nurse. It is the primary home for peripheral perfusion and extremity findings; anticoagulation management and heart-failure edema are cross-linked, not duplicated, into their overlays.
