Vision drives safety and independence at home, and several ocular problems are true emergencies in which sight is lost within hours — a central retinal artery occlusion, acute angle-closure glaucoma, a retinal detachment. The skilled value of this domain is recognizing the difference between a chronic stable deficit and a sight- or life-threatening change, and ensuring eye drops that protect vision are administered correctly. Documentation that records “vision okay” without functional assessment does not prove a nurse was required; recognizing a sudden visual change and routing it to emergency care does.
