11. Physician or provider notification

Notify the provider for new or progressing loss of protective sensation, a new lesion in an insensate area, painful neuropathy requiring management, or laboratory or glycemic trends driving the neuropathy; document the finding, the time, the orders received, and the follow-through.

Escalate emergently and activate EMS for sudden sensory loss with weakness or other deficits, saddle anesthesia with bowel or bladder change, or rapidly ascending sensory loss, and document the closed loop.
