Skilled interventions

  • Assess peripheral pulses, perfusion, and edema each shift with limb comparison and parameter-based escalation.
  • Apply and evaluate compression therapy per order (confirming arterial adequacy first) and coordinate vascular-ulcer care (route wound detail to Skin).
  • Provide DVT surveillance and administer/monitor anticoagulation where ordered (route detail to the Anticoagulation overlay).

Teaching / training (to mastery)

  • Teach the resident/representative compression use, elevation, protective foot care, DVT/ischemia warning signs, and skin protection, with teach-back.
  • Train CNAs on edema/skin reporting, safe compression application, and prompt reporting of a limb change, with documented understanding.
