15. Homebound relevance

Hearing and vestibular deficits support homebound status mainly through fall risk and communication barriers; document the patient-specific evidence when present and do not overstate it.

Hearing/vestibular-related evidence that supports homebound status

  • Vertigo or vestibular imbalance with a fall risk that makes leaving home unsafe without assistance (cross-reference Safety).
  • A hearing deficit that, with other factors, impairs safe navigation and communication outside the home.
  • An acute ear condition or post-procedure status that limits leaving home.
  • A need for assistance and a taxing effort to leave home safely with impaired hearing or balance.
