The male reproductive/genitourinary system drives a skilled course chiefly through urologic surgery. After a prostatectomy or transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), a resident often needs continuous bladder irrigation with skilled monitoring of the outflow color and clots, catheter management, and surveillance for hemorrhage and clot retention. Post-operative scrotal/testicular surgery requires skilled site and complication care, and the dependent resident needs skilled genital skin care. The skilled work is the irrigation and catheter management, the hematuria/bleeding surveillance, and the post-operative care.
This module proves, on the days it applies, that skilled urologic/genital care and observation was reasonable, necessary, and part of the daily skilled need under Pub. 100-02 Chapter 8. The assessment is the same as in home care; the coverage spine is re-pointed. Catheter and UTI care route to Continence; renal to Genitourinary/Renal; anticoagulation to its overlay.
