Skilled interventions

  • Manage continuous bladder irrigation and the catheter with outflow-color and patency monitoring; hand-irrigate clots per protocol.
  • Provide hematuria/hemorrhage surveillance and post-operative site care; support the scrotum per order.
  • Provide skilled genital skin care for the dependent resident and recognize a scrotal emergency or spreading infection.

Teaching / training (to mastery)

  • Teach the resident/representative post-urologic-surgery care, catheter management, activity restrictions, and the warning signs (bleeding, clots, pain, no output), with return-demonstration/teach-back.
  • Train CNAs on catheter/irrigation observation, genital skin care, and reporting bright-red outflow, clots, distension, or severe pain, with documented understanding.
