Taste / Oral Sensation / Swallowing

Swallowing, aspiration risk, and taste. This is the aspiration-safety home. Routed here: dysphagia screening, aspiration risk and swallow safety, adherence to IDDSI texture and consistency modifications, taste and smell change affecting intake, and oral-phase sensation. Oral structures live in Mouth/Oral; intake and weight live in Nutrition; a neurogenic cause of dysphagia lives in Neurological; aspiration pneumonia is shared with Respiratory.

How to use this module

This module is the aspiration-safety home. It supplies dysphagia screening, aspiration-risk assessment, and the verification of IDDSI texture and feeding precautions — with the skilled language that proves the care took a licensed nurse. It coordinates closely with speech-language pathology; nursing documents the screen, the skilled teaching of safe-swallow strategies, and the management of the plan. Oral structures are in Mouth/Oral, intake in Nutrition, and a neurogenic cause in Neurological. Each narrative is a structured example to edit to the actual visit and the patient’s orders — not a phrase to copy.
