Mobility deficits are among the strongest supports for homebound status; document the patient-specific evidence when present and do not overstate it.
Mobility-related evidence that supports homebound status
- A mobility deficit requiring an assistive device and the considerable, taxing effort of leaving home.
- Weight-bearing restrictions or post-operative precautions that make leaving home unsafe without assistance.
- Impaired gait or balance with a fall risk that makes leaving home hazardous.
- A need for assistance and a taxing effort to ambulate or transfer that limits safe travel outside the home.
