• Skilled recognition of new black tarry stools with increasing fatigue and pallor in an anticoagulated patient was required to activate EMS for gastrointestinal bleeding with developing anemia before hemodynamic collapse.
• Skilled recognition of a single fever of 100.6°F in a neutropenic chemotherapy patient was required to arrange urgent evaluation for a neutropenic-fever emergency (cross-reference Allergic/Immunologic).
• Skilled recognition of new spontaneous petechiae and bruising was required to notify the provider for possible thrombocytopenia, prompting laboratory evaluation and a medication review.
