Physician or provider notification Notify the provider for recurrent or difficult-to-control epistaxis, a cannula pressure injury, sinusitis with facial pain and fever, a new loss of smell, or persistent unilateral symptoms; document the finding, the time, the orders received, and the follow-through.
Escalate emergently and activate EMS for epistaxis not controlled with pressure, a posterior or large-volume bleed, bleeding with hemodynamic change, or facial cellulitis with systemic signs, and document the closed loop.
