15. Homebound relevance

Nasal findings are usually a minor support for homebound status, mainly through oxygen dependence; document the patient-specific evidence when present and do not overstate it.

Nasal/oxygen-related evidence that supports homebound status

  • Oxygen dependence with a nasal cannula requiring skilled skin surveillance that, with other factors, makes leaving home a taxing effort (management in Respiratory/COPD).
  • Recurrent or difficult epistaxis requiring skilled control and monitoring.
  • An acute sinus or nasal condition that limits leaving home.
  • A need for assistance and a taxing effort to leave home where nasal or oxygen management is ongoing.
