Physician or provider notification Notify the provider for candidiasis or mucositis limiting intake, a non-healing oral lesion or mass, a severe dental infection, denture-related ulceration, or problematic xerostomia; document the finding, the time, the orders received, and the follow-through.
Escalate emergently and activate EMS for airway-threatening oral or throat swelling, angioedema, a deep-space infection with drooling and fever, or floor-of-mouth swelling with tongue elevation, and document the closed loop.
