15. Homebound relevance

Oral findings support homebound status mainly through their effect on intake and comfort; document the patient-specific evidence when present and do not overstate it.

Oral-related evidence that supports homebound status

  • An oral condition impairing intake and comfort that, with other factors, contributes to the taxing effort of leaving home (cross-reference Nutrition).
  • A painful oral or dental condition requiring skilled management that limits leaving home.
  • An oral infection or post-procedure status that limits leaving home.
  • A need for assistance and a taxing effort to leave home where oral management is ongoing.
