Physician or provider notification Notify the provider for a new or enlarging neck mass, a non-healing incision, compressive symptoms, or systemic thyroid symptoms of over- or under-treatment; document the finding, the time, the orders received, and the follow-through.
Escalate emergently and activate EMS for airway compromise or stridor, thyroid storm, myxedema, or post-thyroidectomy hypocalcemia with tetany or an expanding hematoma, and document the closed loop.
