Catheter dependence and fluid-management instability commonly support homebound status; document the patient-specific evidence when present and do not overstate it.

Urinary/renal-related evidence that supports homebound status

  • Catheter dependence requiring frequent skilled catheter care that the patient cannot self-manage.
  • Fluid-management instability requiring close monitoring that makes leaving home for care a taxing effort.
  • Symptom burden — frequency, urgency, retention, or device management — that limits the ability to leave home.
  • A need for assistance and a taxing effort to access urinary or renal care outside the home.
